The Danube Delta is one of the most beautiful not only in Europe, but in the whole world.

Danube Delta is a new land still forming for more than 16.000 years. The water and the land in this area offer good life conditions for many species of animals and plants. Every year the surface of the delta grows by 40 square meters.

The Danube Delta is a real museum of biodiversity, a natural gene bank of a priceless value for the universal natural patrimony. The delta has various ecosystems where live many birds unique in Europe, fish and animals.

Since 1992 the Danube Delta entered in UNESCO world heritage being classified as a biosphere reservation at national level and as a national park. Since 21st of May 1992 the Danube Delta is protected by The Ramsar Convention on Wetlands because it is a wet area of international importance.

The delta’s flora is represented mainly by the specific vegetation of the wet areas. Here can be found reed and bulrush on 78% of the total surface. But there are also a lot of tree species and two sand forests, Letea and Caraorman. Letea forest is known for its wild horse stud which has been saved recently from being slaughtered. Also this forest is the only place in Europe where Greek lianas of almost 25 meters still grow giving to it the aspect of a tropical forest.

Here the fauna is represented by 360 bird species and 135 fish species from which only 45 are freshwater species. Since 2006 the sturgeon was declared prohibited specie for a period of 10 years. Some fish migrate to spawn eggs. Among these fish are the Danube herring and the blue herring which in spring enter in flocks on the rivers and up to the Danube’s springs. There are other species which normally live in the Black Sea and during the reproductive period climb up the Danube. Also at edge of the delta live a small specie of shark.

The Danube Delta represents the most important resting place for migratory birds traveling between tropical regions and the Arctic region. Five of the most important roads of these birds pass through Danube Delta. Besides migratory species here nest a large number of rare species which come here as guest of summer. Other species hatch in northern Europe and come here for the winter.

In the Danube Delta grow two carnivorous plants, Utricularia vulgaris and Aldrovanda which have developed traps to catch insects in order to feed themselves.

Due to the large extent of water the number of people is very low. They live mainly from fishing and in communion with nature. Here the traditions are similar to other areas in the country; people like to celebrate together although they live far away one from another.

If you arrive in the Danube Delta there are a lot of options to travel and to discover it. The easiest way to see the delta is to make a trip by speedboat on the beautiful canals. The trail passes through a series of small canals and lakes located near Tulcea. The most interesting point is the canal “With the boat in the forest”, a canal that has dug its way through a forest of willows which gives the tourist the impression that he is in a submerged forest.

Bucegi Mountains are the most accessible for the residents of the capital city.

Situated at about two hours driving from Bucharest, Bucegi Mountains are studded with a number of mountain resorts, cable systems, roads and paths that lead the tourists to heights. We often go to Bucegi Mountains. They always attract us with their delightful landscapes, their lively nature, the mountain resorts and the local atmosphere. The towns of Sinaia, Predeal, Paraul Rece, Rasnov or Bran and the city of Brasov are connected with Bucegi Mountains, whether they are situated at their foot or a few miles away. Omu, Babele, Piatra Arsa, Gura Diham or Padina chalets are other places in Bucegi Mountains full of charm and good humour.

Over time, we, the ones from Pure Romania, made a lot of trips in Bucegi in all four seasons. The photos below capture the beauty of these mountains and are evidence for the unforgettable moments that we have lived.

Rucar Bran Passage

We call this place heaven, a place where time has patience, nature is gorgeous, mountains are guarding and life is peaceful and pure . . . if you think is too much just see the Rucar Bran pictures from below.

Rucar Bran Passage

Since the oldest times Rucar Bran Passage connects Transylvania to Wallachia making way through the Carpathians. Rucar Bran Passage is a special place, is a piece of heaven. You can realise this at the first sight of these places. You are impressed since the beginning by the nature.

Rucar Bran Passage is situated between Piatra Craiului and Bucegi mountains. This is the reason why it is protected by sharp high peaks at the sunset and the guardian massif (Bucegi Mountains) at the sunrise. The road that goes from Mateias (above the town of Campulung) crosses lofty round hills, deep and narrow valleys and secular forests. The road passes through Dragoslavele, Rucar, Podul Dambovitei and Fundata villages in order to get to Bran. The landscapes are so beautiful that you will be sorry that you did not get here early. The people are gentle. Maybe the winters rich in snow made them like that. Their colorful houses, the animal shelters built on steep hills, the cheese in fir basket with strong flavor, the fluffy kind and big dogs (Romanian Shepherd dog), their life kept clean, these entire impress you.

The wonder is even bigger if you dare to leave the national road and go to Dambovicioara Village (maybe you will stop here and visit the cave) and continue the way until Pestera Village. You will see the less known part of Rucar Bran Passage, you will get to isolated and well preserved villages, you will be even closer to Piatra Craiului Mountains, and you will enjoy a brave road that crosses slopes. You will get to Ciocanu, Sirnea, Pestera and Magura villages. It is a fairytale world. It is something that you seldom see. If you get there I ask you tourist to respect the place and to pray for it to stay pure and untouched by time itself and the new times.

How do you get there?

From Bucharest you go on A1 highway to Pitesti, then you have to take the way to Campulung and from here you go to the Mausoleum from Mateias, the milestone that opens the way towards the wonderful world of Rucar Bran Passage.

Romania’s Forests

Few words and lots of pictures about The Romania’s forests

In Romania it is frequently said that “the forest is brother with the Romanian”. This saying shows the old connection between the Romanians and the forest. The Romania’s forests were for the people in these places shelter, food source, raw material source for households as well as temple for their relation with the divinity. Whether we think about the Dacians or we look at the recent history we find the forest as an element of great importance for the Romanians’ life. Romania’s forests are a mystical space, a space that has the power to inspire, to emphasize the inner feelings. In Pure Romania places album we have introduced this special section named Romania’s forests in order to highlight their importance for the Romanian people and to shed light on the beauty of the Romanian forests.

Enjoy below Pure Romania photos of beautiful forests
